Some of the most important artists of the French academy have been William Bouguereau (1825–1905), Jean-Léon Gérôme (1824–1904), Alexandre Cabanel (1823–1889) and Thomas Couture (1815–1879). Academic art is intently related to Beaux-Arts architecture, which developed in the same place and holds to an identical classicizing ideal. The Beaux-Arts fashion takes its name from the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where it developed and where lots of the main exponents of the fashion studied.
